Annual Board Meeting

The Annual Board Meeting, held in January each year, brings together the entire 21 member board and several community partners as the Council elects new board members, executive committee members and officers for the coming year.  The annual report is presented as well as the current auditor's report.  The previous year's accomplishments are reviewed and the strategic plan updated.

Annual Awards Luncheon

The Annual Awards Luncheon, held each spring, has honored outstanding child advocates in our community for over 25 years.  Nominations are accepted from the community at large and the award winners are a diversified group who contribute to the well being of St. Clair County kids on many levels.  The event features a guest speaker and provides the Council the opportunity to kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month (April) with the enthusiastic support of all those in attendance.   Each year, Council accepts nominations until approximately March 5th, please feel free to nominate your choice now in writing directed to our Council offices at 1107 Military St., Port Huron, MI  48060.

April - Child Abuse Prevention Month

Child Abuse Prevention Month is observed by the Council in many ways, beginning with the tying of large blue ribbons on lamp posts all along the main street of Port Huron on or about April 1.  The Council office is also 'decked out' in blue ribbons and a pinwheel garden is planted in front of the building.  The Council is always honored with a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month by the mayor at a Port Huron city council meeting.  Many times, special workshops or conferences are held during the month to highlight Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The Council urges citizens and other organizations to observe Child Abuse Prevention Month by initiating their own special events and getting creative with ideas that support the belief that....

"It shouldn't hurt to be a child."

Dinner For Kids' Sake

Every June, the Council sponsors a fantastic dinner and silent auction at Solitude Links Golf & Banquet Center (formerly Fore Lakes Golf Club) which draws a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters.  A theme is always chosen which encourages casual and themed attire and the silent auction is beyond compare!  Well known as one of the area's most fantastic and fun fundraisers, the event raises well over $40,000 for the Council's work with children and families.

Community Roof Sit For Kids/Walk For Kids' Sake

Roofsit Cowboy

The St. Clair County Child Abuse/Neglect Council has partnered annually for 21 years with Radio First and the Birchwood Mall in sponsoring 'Roof-Sit' - the traditional fall mega-event which benefits child abuse prevention and advocacy in St. Clair County.  WSAQ Radio's morning personality, Chuck Santoni, camps out on the Birchwood Mall roof broadcasting for five days, encouraging pledges benefiting the event and participating in a number of special events all week long.  Council staff members man the headquarters in the mall's food court, welcoming all visitors and keeping track of the event's many details.

Chuck Santoni is escorted to the mall by hundreds of supporters during the Walk For Kids' Sake which takes place on day one - after gathering at Lakeside Park the walkers, led by Chuck, walk to the mall where, upon arrival he is lifted to the roof by a Fort Gratiot Township ladder fire truck.

Amazing, amazing, amazing - the only words which adequately describe this unique event which annually raises over $100,000 -

Be a Star For Kids' Sake

The Council offers brushed silver personalized engraved stars as a way to honor someone you love, say happy birthday or happy anniversary, or just provide a permanent record of your support for kids.  The stars are attractively displayed in the family waiting area of our building and are an awesome way to honor a friend, family member or group.
